Every lesson is live and private, built around where you actually are and the music you actually want to play. Complete beginners are genuinely welcome, and so is anyone coming back to the cello after years away.
Joe Falconer
Joseph R. Falconer began fiddle lessons in Kingsport, Tennessee at six years old, and by high school was playing guitar, bass, drums, violin and cello. He earned merit scholarships at Middle Tennessee State University and a graduate assistantship with the University of Tennessee's “Strings in Our Schools” initiative, taking his bachelor's and master's degrees in music education with honors. He is a registered Suzuki Cello Method instructor.
His students have gone on to professional musical and teaching appointments, and to music scholarships at East Tennessee State University, the University of Tennessee, Duke University and the Jacobs School at Indiana University.
From 2020 to 2025 he was Adjunct Professor of Music at the University of North Carolina Asheville, cello faculty at Asheville's Academy for the Arts, and conductor of the Asheville Symphony Youth Orchestra. As a cellist he has performed with orchestras, chamber groups and theatrical companies across Tennessee and the Carolinas, and has co-written and recorded music with Nashville alt-rock bands. He has appeared playing fiddle and cello on CBS News, and was invited onto Blue Ridge Public Radio to discuss the film scores of John Williams.
After receiving help replacing his instruments following Hurricane Helene, Joe became a spokesperson for Restring Appalachia, a nonprofit that provides instruments to musicians affected by natural disasters. He is now based in Sacramento, California, freelancing year-round as a soloist, orchestral cellist, guitarist and composer, and performs regularly with the Tahoe Philharmonic.

When Joe teaches
Joe teaches on weekdays from late morning into the afternoon, Eastern time, and on Saturday mornings — so there are daytime slots during the school week, which homeschool families rarely get offered. Tell us roughly when suits you and we'll come back with what's actually free.
